From wikipedia.org: "A photoblog (or photolog) is a form of photo sharing and publishing in the format of a blog, but differentiated by the predominant use of and focus on photographs rather than text". In other words, the purpose of this daily blog is to push me into photography on a daily basis. It is not a personal gallery expressing my most emotional and artistic work. I see it as an ongoing study of my evolution in photography. My portfolio can be seen at www.oliverchank.com.
I first started photoblogging after spending an incredible amount of time admiring Will Duncan's photoblog. I was amazed. I didn't know amateur photography - let's call it that way because it was, back then - could go so far visually. I didn't know anything about photoblogs at the time... and thus being the quick learner that I am, Photo + Blog was pretty self explanatory. After a couple of pictures, pixelpost, coding and coffees, my own photoblog was born... I named it Blind Photography for no apparent reason and obviously never found anything better.

My full name is Olivier Mercier Chan Kane -though I’m mostly refered to as Oliver Chank - born on June 12, 1989 in Sherbrooke, Canada. I am now 18 and studying graphic design in Sherbrooke's College. I started photography when I was about 10, not really understanding the real meaning of aperture nor ASA/ISO; but, I surely knew how the built-in light meter worked, that 1/125 was a funny fraction, and that manual focus was so much fun. It was all I had to know. I just loved pressing the shutter.
I am now a proud Sherbrooke’s College graduate, yay-finally! Three more years of Graphic Design still awaits me in UQÀM’s school of design, starting this fall. |
Most pictures in this blog were taken with a Nikon D50 with the cheap kit lenses and 50mm f/1.8. Unfortunately, I rarely do 35mm format since I like Not to spend money for films. I don't have access to a darkroom yet anyways. I shoot with an old Nikon FE and Minolta srT 303 when I feel like working in the darkroom.
Update: Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D added to the list! My D50 has surely made its time in my hands. It has granted me the will to make powerful images, and now it’s destiny rests in someone else’s hands. I thought I’d be better off with a D300... Plus, I got my hands on a shiny 10-20mm, and a famous LensBaby!
